• Traveling without money. Between adventure and madness: how to travel the world without money. How are you allowed to stay overnight?

“He doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke, doesn’t run after women - there must be some kind of drawback. Here I am traveling!” Writer and photographer Valery Shanin (pictured), who turns 50 this year, has traveled three times around the world and visited more than 80 countries. Returning the other day from Central America, where he climbed the tops of volcanoes, scared crocodiles and wandered among the ancient ruins, the traveler looked into St. Petersburg. He told how to travel the world almost for free, get enchanting memories and stay alive.

    FROM suffered from gluttony

When Valery Shanin went on his first trip around the world, a couple of weeks later, in South Asia, the money ran out, but the desire to move on remained. But starvation did not threaten Valery. According to Shanin, he generally suffered from overeating at first - everyone strove to feed. Then he learned to avoid gluttony. He simply stopped carrying food from place to place and refused when he was told: “Take another bag of food with you!”

Since I was hitchhiking, there were sometimes translation difficulties in different countries. How to explain in China that you are a hitchhiker? At first, I showed with gestures that I had no money, and pointed with my hand in the direction of the road. As a result, one Chinese man simply opened his purse and gave me money. That is, this method turned out to be ineffective (laughs). It is also interesting that if you want to eat, then our Russian gesture, when we seem to bring a spoon to our mouth, is incomprehensible to the Chinese. There, this will require a gesture that we mean “you talk too much”: the thumb is connected several times with the rest, which symbolizes the movement of chopsticks.

"Let me in for one night"

As an experimental psychologist, Shanin decided to understand how a person would feel when he accidentally finds himself without money in another country. Except in the dwellings of hospitable foreigners, he spent the night in churches, and in temples, and in the open air.

Of course, it happened that they were not allowed. Usually the conversation goes like this: “Hello, is it possible to spend the night here? Not? Then a clarifying question: what about eating? Whatever the holy place was, no one refused food. The Russian mentality is very different from the foreign one. If you approach the security guard of our plant and ask for an overnight stay, then he feels like the owner of this place and lets him in without problems, but in another country no one expands his duties, first they consult with the authorities. I am a lazy person, I don’t even take a tent with me - only a small backpack. I remember that I need to spend the night somewhere when it gets dark. It is important, when asking for a lodging for the night, to learn not to be greedy and to stay, as you promise, only for one night.

Shanin warns that you should not ask for money abroad. It is better to say that you will be given a ride along the way or, for example, given water. But if you are offered money - do not refuse. To move on, it's not a sin to earn extra money. Shanin, for example, speaks enthusiastically about New Zealand agriculture:

If it were not for the burden of two entities (a psychologist and a physicist), I would have stayed there to this day to work as a gardener, picking apples, cherries, and kiwi.

Meet not by clothes, but by legend

A prerequisite for a trip, according to the traveler, is insurance. Otherwise, if something happens, your loved ones will have to collect gigantic money for your treatment.

Sometimes, says Shanin, it is difficult for foreigners to understand the realities of our life. Not everyone can understand why it suddenly occurred to you to embark on a trip around the world. Therefore, a legend must be prepared in advance, which will explain to people who you are.

If a man travels with a woman, it is often better to say that you are a brother and sister, then they will understand that you can be placed in the same room. We can say that you decided to get somewhere without money on a bet or that you were robbed. I've been robbed like this for a long time now. But this time, we were actually purged in Central America, our cameras and phones were taken away.

Shanin says that you can travel on passing ships. Only this is many times more difficult than just hitchhiking, where you need to negotiate with only one driver.

And here you need to charm the owner of the ship, the captain and the agent of the company for which this ship works. If at least one of the three says "No", then everything has failed. You can come up with a reasonable legend that you are a journalist and write a book about travel. This is how I contacted the Russian consul in Ecuador, he introduced me to the owner of the banana company, and I managed to persuade him to be sent back to Russia on a banana ship. So, having crossed the Atlantic, I arrived in St. Petersburg.

Ours were often rescued abroad. It is better to start their search abroad with the local Russian Orthodox Church.

Don't be afraid and don't ask

You can travel at any age, if there is a desire, and the psychological attitude is also very important. A 74-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman recently traveled with me in Latin America.

If you want to travel around the world, then, Shanin recommends, you can take a three-week vacation once a year and for each subsequent year, start traveling from the point where you finished the previous one.

When asked about the best country in the world, Valeriy answered unexpectedly: Turkey.

If you put all the parameters together, then it is perfect. Visa-free regime for Russians, the climate is better than ours, but not the tropics, the cuisine is better, but not cockroaches. Turks are sincere and love their land very much. And, by the way, there are more Greek ruins than in Greece, you take a history textbook and go ahead, - the traveler said.

Speaking about the dangers of traveling, Valery admitted that he often has to deal with fears.

Thailand is a quiet safe country. Ten million people passed it without problems, if two were raped, a tourist panic immediately begins. When we crossed the Colombian border in the dark, we screwed ourselves up so much that horror. But everything went well. Of course, you need to try not to get into dangerous places. For example, in Central America, they will definitely rob or rob. You don't even need to contact the police, unless you have lost your passport. My daughter and her husband were robbed at knife point in Nicaragua. But the guys did not become discouraged, they said that they really liked the further part of the “light” trip.

If you still decide to go around the world, then, given that you will meet a variety of people along the way, Shanin advises you to be an open person, but not to impose your point of view.

If you meet a fascist, don't try to make him a communist. Traveling is certainly dangerous. A few years ago, Muscovite Sergei Bereznitsky went missing in Afghanistan. But most travelers die in accidents, not in civil wars or exotic diseases.

The adventure can be safe if you remember to turn on your head. As Shanin says: “You don’t have to start from the border of Colombia and Panama, if this is your first outing, and you don’t have to climb Everest, you only climbed the stairs to the 2nd floor.”

Vladimir Shanin has long made travel his profession. In 1999-2002, he hitchhiked around the world. For 1080 days and 280 dollars he crossed Mongolia, China, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, East Timor, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador.

The second circumnavigation took place in 2007-2008 and took only 108 days. This time the route passed through Kazakhstan, China, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Cuba, Spain, France, Italy.

The third circumnavigation took place from 2009 to 2010 in 39 visa-free countries of Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania, and America. Shanin maintains his blog on the website of the travel community Tourbina.ru .

Anastasia SOKOLOVSKAYA ("MK in St. Petersburg")

People dream of traveling different countries, but they are stopped by a lack of funds, which is why they have to sit still all their lives, only dreaming of unforgettable road adventures. It turns out that you don't always have to be rich to travel the world. How to travel without money?

    What are the options?

Someone cherishes dreams all his life, while others take on their embodiment. You can always ignore stereotypes, go against the system and take what you want from fate. To do this, you should familiarize yourself with other people's experience, find out how people travel without money. Sometimes travelers find a sponsor, which is not so easy. Some go to other countries to work, and spend their free time and accumulated funds on visiting attractions. However, with such a scheme of actions, the tourist still has to get a significant amount. There are other workarounds.

    Ascetic vacation

If a person is counting on a five-star hotel and participation in social events at fashion evenings, most likely this method is not for him. Those who can afford conveniences, neglect some of the values of the material plane, are ready to learn how to travel around the world without money.

You can have a good time outside the walls of a comfortable room, without going to expensive restaurants and shops. More and more followers appear in the ideas of immaterialism. Today, consumer values are too cultivated. Having got rid of the ideas put into the head by the media, many manage to live happily and travel to different countries without clinging excessively to the money issue.

    What can't be denied?

Of course, people still need such simple goods as food, water and shelter. You will have to pay for them. Otherwise, your vacation will acquire criminal features. It is about not overpaying for the brand, advertising and generally accepted traditions.

Is it possible to travel without money and still be a law-abiding citizen? Quite. But for this, according to all the rules, you need to take out insurance and a visa, and then save on all other items of expenditure, such as expensive hotels. To live in them, you will have to work hard at work for some more time before finally breaking out on vacation. Those who are not afraid of adventure and difficulties will go to meet their dream much earlier.

How to start traveling without money and what to save on? Human life is impossible without air, clean water, food, sleep and a sufficient level of health. In the case of moving to unfamiliar places, you will probably want to get acquainted with the sights, communicate with the inhabitants, move from one point to another and still not break the law.

    Basic Needs

It’s worth starting with Breathe, of course, you can do it completely free of charge. So far, taxes on air have not been established, although who knows how it will be in the future. It is permissible to pay for this benefit only when flying into space or descending under the sea surface.

Even when planning how to travel without money, make sure you have clean water. If you use a dirty liquid, you can greatly spoil your vacation with indigestion, E. coli, salmonella, cholera, and various viruses. It is permissible to restore the lack of moisture in the body with the help of water from the pipeline. If you often drink from there, the body will get used to it. Sometimes the human body is not ready for this.

You can always find a pump room or any other source, fill a bottle and make a small supply. If there is no such place nearby, they resort to boiling for 1 minute, which kills microbes. As a last resort, get cleansing tablets or chemicals. Their price is low compared to bottled water from the supermarket, they process large volumes at once.

You won't be full of impressions

The second issue that is given attention when planning how to travel without money is the cost of food. Everyone needs energy, and only especially enlightened people are able to feed on the power of the sun's rays. For a week without food, a person will survive, but will he enjoy the rest to the fullest? Hardly.

Hitchhiking is a good option. Often, driving a traveler, drivers offer him a treat. So don't give up. But this is more of a pleasant accident than a source of constant replenishment of forces.

The following method may not appeal to everyone, but it gives a pretty clear idea of how to start traveling the world without money. When a product expires in supermarkets, it is thrown into the trash. As a rule, if you eat foods with a small delay, nothing terrible will happen to the body. In Russia, homeless people arrange whole wars for these delicacies, but in European countries there is less competition.

To ennoble this way of eating, it has been called "container diving". The association with ragged and unwashed people, whose faces are covered with bruises, immediately disappears. For many, this is crazy. Thinking about the rest, we imagine ourselves on a deck chair with a cocktail in our hands, and not rummaging around in the trash so as not to die of hunger. But no one said that you can go traveling without money and not sacrifice some habits. In addition, the food is in sealed bags, so that the possibility of infection is excluded.

In large cities, there are a large number of dumps-banquets that do not allow the traveler to be left without strength and energy. Those whose morals do not allow climbing into a dumpster can purchase an inexpensive lunch (bread or pasta). Once in the countryside or city park during the warm season, you can easily find fruits.

    Dream

How can you travel without money and not spend a lot of money on an overnight stay? Try polyphasic sleep. People manage to sleep 4 times for half an hour during the day and not fall off their feet. Of course, there is no need to talk about high energy, but you can move around.

The ideal option is to use a tent. It is desirable to have a satellite nearby. If you are afraid of thieves and bandits, sleep in turns.

    Health

Since without good health any vacation will go down the drain, it is advisable to still take out insurance. Then, in the event of an emergency, you will not have to throw out large funds for medicines at the local hospital. Medicine is not cheap anywhere.

In the event of a fracture or other emergency, your loved ones won't have to book an expensive private flight to get you home for treatment. So there are expenses that can really be neglected, but insurance is not one of them. It is worth taking care of this issue, so that later you don’t cry about what you wanted for the best, but it turned out, as always.

Having decided on the point to which you will go, you should visit a doctor and ask what measures should be taken in order not to catch local diseases. Problems should be solved in advance, not after they arise. In the presence of public health services, vaccinations against malaria and rabies are provided free of charge.

    Visit amazing places

How to travel without money and get the most out of your trip? It is worth striving for those things that will impress you.

Places of the reign of nature, such as mountains, forests, are beautiful and are available completely free of charge. In fact, they belong to every person on earth, including you, so freely draw delicious emotions. If you wish, you can find such objects by asking a couple of questions to the local population.

    Chat with locals

The very conversation with people can already be interesting. Often it is not necessary to turn to guides and guides who charge a fee for their work. It is enough just to show natural charm, to start a casual conversation. The person will be interested to know where you came from, what you saw.

You will learn for yourself a lot of interesting information about the history and customs of the city where you are staying. The color of the area is not only architecture, monuments, museums, but also the population with its own habits and worldview. You can talk while hitchhiking. Nothing is more pleasant on the road than friendly chatter.

The world will open up to you from a new perspective. Many people live and do not even imagine that there is something else behind the small box of four walls of their room. Try everything (safe for health, of course). It is worth giving yourself freedom, but still not crossing the line of reason, finding a middle ground between running after material values and committing crimes (visa-free travel). Cards in hand. Don't be afraid to take risks and learn something new. Indeed, otherwise life will pass by, and there will be no reason for pleasant memories.

If the wallet is empty, but the heart is eager to go, then there can be no obstacles in order to go on a journey. We will try to prove it in our selection of the best ways to travel at the lowest cost.

I must say that it will not be possible to travel without money at all with all your desire, unless, of course, you want to engage in extremely extreme tourism and illegally cross the borders of a couple of states. In any case, you will have to fork out for a visa and, in some cases, for air travel. For the rest, we will try to help you not to spend a single cent by talking about the most acceptable ways to save money.

    ProgramWWOOF

The abbreviation WWOOF stands for World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms, which in Russian means World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. This is an organization that allows you to engage in agritourism. If you don't mind physical labor and can easily spend a few hours in an Australian farmer's garden, then this is a great opportunity to travel without paying a dime. It should be noted only the nuance that you must be a member of the WWOOF organization and annually pay a small membership fee of about fifty dollars. Neither the farmer nor the worker pays each other money, and physical labor in this case is exchanged for lodging and food. The WWOOF program operates in more than fifty countries, including almost all countries in Europe, North America and a number of highly developed Asian countries. More than acceptable list. At the same time, the employee can be sure that he will not have to work with hazardous chemicals, and farm work will not harm his health - all members of the organization are audited for labor safety.

Couchsurfing is a whole movement that grew out of the largest online guest network that allows people from different countries to provide accommodation to each other. This is a great way not only to save a huge amount of money on rent, but also a chance to meet people from other countries by providing them with accommodation (and optional food) for a few days. In essence, couchsurfing is an international free hotel chain, where you can become a member without any membership fees. The only disadvantage of this type of travel is a certain amount of risk, since you have to deal with people you don't know, from whom you can expect anything. However, the risks compared to the benefits and benefits of a free hotel in almost any city in the world are minimal. For more information, visit couchsurfing.org.

    Volunteering in Turtle Teams

The seaturtles.org resource gives everyone the opportunity to travel to the coast of the Caribbean Sea, the Atlantic or the Pacific Ocean. This organization is dedicated to saving and helping turtles who are trying to get into trouble. Volunteers will participate in trainings, watch the turtles and perform all sorts of simple tasks. The benefits of such dust-free work are obvious: you get free housing and food, and in return you polish your shells to a shine and protect the laying of turtle eggs. If you love to travel and love turtles even more, then this is just the perfect option.

Many people around the world need help right now. You can help them, and in return get a roof over their heads and food. helpx.net is an intermediary between those who need help and those who want to help and travel along the way. The abilities for the performer, as well as the geography of the exchange, are quite wide: it can be both help in caring for animals on a farm in the USA, and help in picking strawberries in France. Everyone can find here something that suits him, in return for getting a bed for a couple of days.

Do you have an incredible travel idea that you dream of implementing in the boundless future? In this case, it's time to move from thoughts to actions. After all, all you need is just to tell the world about your plan and get the necessary budget for the trip of your dreams.

Probably, everyone has heard about services like Kickstarter, where you can post a description of your startup and raise money for it. Finally, this practice has gone beyond business projects and has reached travel.

This is how the project works. Trevolta– international crowdfunding for travelers from different countries. The idea of the resource is to help travelers realize their most incredible expedition ideas by organizing a fundraiser for them.

Any registered user can do the following:

    • Submit your travel idea
    • Sponsor another idea you like. For example, this one:

It's more than crowdfunding, it's a travel community

The service has several levels of gradation. For example, in order to receive a Traveler badge, you need to complete your profile, and for the first dollar donated you will receive a Backer badge:

Platform participants not only collect money and donate it to others, but also create their own internal network of contacts.

Traveling without money or traveling with minimal expenses is quite possible. This has been verified by the great experience of many wanderers. But what does the phrase "without money" mean in itself, because many people who ask this question simply expect a freebie, for example, students. "Without money" means someone else is paying for you. Whether it's your travel expenses, food, lodging, and other needs of your body. If you are not spending your money on it, then other people are spending it for you. Therefore, traveling without money means traveling at someone else's expense. And before I talk about my experience of raising funds for travel, I would like to focus on this.

One way or another, on any of your trips, you will need some money, because all the benefits of our civilization have some kind of monetary equivalent in one currency or another. However, which is extremely important in the context of this article, travel expenses can be reduced to some minimum, which can be quite easily obtained (earned) anywhere.

You can get the necessary funds both before the trip, and in itself, being directly in the travel format. The most optimal and most often used option is to earn money before the trip and already go to them. Earning money on the trip itself is difficult and requires certain mental costs, knowledge of the language, the ability to negotiate, and sociability.

If not all, then the vast majority of beginners are interested in the question of money, they say, you need a lot of money for such trips, you need to be rich, have passive income! Yes, it would be nice to have them, but it is quite possible to ride without them! The most important principle of success in such a journey will be the ability to save and reduce your needs. What is the difference between an "ordinary person" and such a traveler? The fact that an ordinary person has much more ordinary needs due to the fact that he simply can afford them. He works at work, is engaged in business - i.e. has a stable income, when, as a person traveling without money or with a minimum of expenses, he does not have a stable income, and his earnings are temporary, therefore, he cannot afford such a number of needs.

When a beginner, while still at the stage of an "ordinary person", mentally imposes on himself the image of a free traveler, he is faced with a bunch of all the same needs and expenses that he is used to in everyday life. But for a traveler, a huge amount of these expenses is simply unnecessary, therefore, he can free his own, albeit tiny, finances from them and use them for another purpose - i.e. spend on travel.

The key to the success of traveling in this format (i.e. without money or with minimal spending) is very simple and it does not lie in the fact that you need to earn more in order to afford to spend money on travel as well, but in the fact that in the trips themselves start saving and reduce your needs. The fewer needs you have - the less money you need to satisfy them, and therefore, the less time you can devote to earning money - and devote more to the journey itself.

    How to cut travel expenses?

Now for the specifics. Let's discuss ways to reduce your travel expenses:

    Transport

    • The most basic way to reduce transport costs is to use hitchhiking. With hitchhiking, in the vast majority of cases, you do not pay money to the driver, and he drives you for free. In many ways, it may not be a convenient and uncomfortable way to travel, but it greatly reduces your costs. In some places, hydrostop is also very relevant - when you can drive on a watercraft.
    • If you need to use air transportation (for example, fly overseas or somewhere far away), then there are ways to search cheap flights. Many companies often arrange various promotions, lay out promotional fares, making significant discounts on their flights. On the Internet, you can find special services for monitoring such actions. You should subscribe to them and follow the layout of messages. This is inconvenient when you have limited times and dates, but if you are looking for tickets in advance, you can quite easily stumble on the direction that suits you and buy a cheap ticket.
    • By the same principle, in many countries there are cheap bus companies that sell their tickets online. They can also be purchased much cheaper if you buy in advance. There are such companies in the USA, and Europe, and many other places.
    • In public transport you can try ride a hare. In some cities (for example, Kuala Lumpur) there are free bus routes. In China, on a bus, when paying at an automatic payer, you can use any other coins instead of yuan, as long as they ring. But do not abuse the deception!
    • Many travelers like to drive tens of thousands of kilometers on bicycle, difficulties can be in matters of repair, but experienced ones have already got their hands on it and carry all the necessary tools with them
    • The most faithful, but the slowest and most energy-intensive way of movement is on foot. But it is verified by the vast experience of various travelers, starting from the dawn of mankind.

    Accommodation

    • For an overnight stay, you can use the well-known CouchSurfing service, in which you are looking for people in a particular region with whom you can spend the night / stay for a while. These people also often play the role of a guide for you, showing you the city and telling you invaluable information about it.
    • If you do not have the opportunity or desire to use couchsurfing, then you can spend the night in tent - and there is nothing shameful in this. Putting up a tent in the center of a city, of course, is not the best idea, but if you stop in advance in front of the city, while still on the highway, you can easily find a place to sleep. This is the same tourism as if you went hiking in the mountains. You can put up a tent in the city itself, in some park, forest belt. If you arrive at night and leave early in the morning, no one will see you. And in many places, even if they see it, it’s not scary, with experience the fear of such overnight stays disappears.
    • In some countries, due to the high population density, it is extremely difficult to find a quiet place for a tent, but you can find an overnight stay in them, registration with local residents. To do this, you need to contact someone with a request to spend the night. Often this is difficult and here you need to apply your sociability and experience in such conversations. Approach at the right time and in the right place. This is best done in residential areas (not in the center) with one-story buildings. You can approach and ask the hosts about spending the night with them, and if not with them, then with one of their friends. Various holidays and festivities are good for such communication, where people are located to get to know each other, especially with a foreign traveler. Very hospitable people in the Caucasus and in Muslim countries. In rural areas, there are more chances to find accommodation for the night than in the city.
    • You can try to spend the night in administrative buildings, some institutions with a security guard, where there is no particular severity. The same tent can be set up at a guarded parking lot right in the city itself, among the stone jungle.
    • In some countries, petrol stations have rest rooms for truck drivers, where you can sit, watch TV, etc. I spent the night in such places in the USA when it was raining heavily outside, which made it difficult to spend the night in a tent (there was a single layer without an awning).
    • You can stay overnight in the cab, which gives you a ride, or in the cabin of the bus, train car, on board the aircraft. Those. book a ticket for a night flight in advance. But remember that sleeping in the front seat of a car is not safe, as the driver can also fall asleep - leading to an accident!
    • If you want comfort, but you can’t use couchsurfing, then you can find inexpensive guesthouses or hostels on hotel booking sites like booking.com. The minimum price of hostels in Russia and Asia is $4-5 per night.
    • You can spend the night in the monastery, both Christian and some other (for example, Buddhist).
    • You can also stay overnight at airports, train stations and bus stations. At airports, you can generally stay comfortably and live for many days. For example, during the day you walk around the city, do something there, and only at night come to the airport, where you can spend the night. One way or another, a huge number of people waiting for their flights spend the night in this way, and so you can pretend that you are waiting for your flight.
    • In some resort towns or just towns with access to the sea, you can spend the night right on the beach. Often there are some sun loungers or deck chairs that are not always cleaned. There are various benches, gazebos. Often even locals stay in such places for the night. There is nothing shameful in this, spending the night in such a place is quite normal.
    • If the city is calm, warm and there are not very many mosquitoes, then you can spend the night right on the street. Just in the alleys, squares, in parks that are not closed at night, bus stops.

    Nutrition

    • If you are staying with someone away, then the owners of the premises, as a rule, feed you.
    • You can buy cheap food in large retail chains like American Walmart or French Auchan. In such stores, most often there are products of local production, from this distribution network. There is no brand markup on it and therefore it is much cheaper. Take advantage of this and don't be afraid to spend your pennies in expensive countries like Norway and the US.
    • In different religious institutions, temples, monasteries often have free canteens. For example, many people like to eat at a Sikh temple - in India or some other country. In Buddhist monasteries, Orthodox charity canteens, etc.
    • Take food with you and carry in a backpack. If you are traveling to expensive countries, then you can stock up on food from home. If you have the necessary utensils, a gas burner, a wood stove, you can cook very cheap Russian food yourself instead of spending money on buying ready-made meals, even in cheap public catering. Cooking yourself will be cheaper.
    • This method may seem ethically unacceptable to some, and I have not personally used it yet, but many people practice it (and not only homeless people!). pick up while still fresh food thrown in the trash. In cities, behind some public catering or grocery stores, you can see neatly folded garbage bags, in which, as a rule, a significant amount of still fresh, unopened products, either one that will expire soon, or just left . Formally, such products are absolutely safe for eating, disgust and unethical lies only in the very fact of selecting them from someone else's garbage. Also a food option without money.
    • Get your own food through fishing, hunting and gathering. You need to have the necessary equipment with you. Vegetables and fruits can be obtained directly in cities, villages, fruit trees, plantations. Do not climb other people's gardens, it is better to ask the gardener to treat you to something!
    • Walking along markets and bazaars, ask to try something in a single copy. “Can I have this cucumber?”, “And this tomato?”, “And the tangerines are sweet, can I try?” - We can say that today is your birthday, and then, perhaps, you will be treated to something. But it’s better not to lie, because lying is not good! Also in the markets, just before closing, you can bargain with the seller and take something quite cheaply, since what is not sold can soon deteriorate and help out at least something for it, the seller will be happy. Or maybe even give for so.

    Water

    • Water is a separate item of the traveler's needs, always have a certain supply of water with you! Especially in third world countries. In many places it can be bought at cheap prices in large retail chains.
    • Dial from coolers in various administrative institutions, banks, shopping centers, public catering.
    • Dial from local residents especially in rural areas.
    • Dial in free sources, drinking fountains, columns, springs, streams and rivers.
    • In developed countries, water can be collected from the tap in public toilets of any institutions, it is clean, filtered there.
    • Dial from the tap, and then boil, use external filters (where water is of doubtful purity).

    Hygiene

    • If you need to use the toilet, then in cities you can do this in catering establishments, various institutions, shopping centers with free public restrooms. However, I should tell you, based on personal experience, that in the Scandinavian countries such toilets are paid! And they cost 0.5-1 Euro! Real robbery, mind you. In these restrooms, having closed yourself in a booth, having previously drawn water into a bottle, you can perform an act of partial washing, in your opinion, the dirtiest parts of your mortal body.
    • If you are on the highway, then you don’t need any toilet - around fields/forests. If there is no toilet paper (or wet wipes), then instead of it - an armful of grass, foliage, moss. Rinse your hands with water from the bottle that you have.
    • On the petrol stations often showers. The shower is paid, do not want to pay for the shower? - see point 1.
    • If you are staying overnight from local, then wash there. In some regions, you can specifically ask the locals just for this (use the restroom, shower), without a subsequent overnight stay.
    • Once a week (two, three, five, ten) you can take a cheap guesthouse/hostel number, to take a shower and plenty of gurgle in it, as well as wash your clothes. If you live permanently, then there are no problems - wash at least all day, I don’t mind!
    • Get up with a tent, not just anywhere, but near water bodies. There you can bathe, wash your dirty things, etc.

    Attractions

    • In some places there are different free events, museums, concerts, festivals, fairs and various institutions. If not always, then on some days. You can visit them and enjoy getting to know the city.
    • If you live somewhere together with the locals, for example, in couchsurfing, then they can pay for a trip somewhere. As a gesture of hospitality and just from the bottom of my heart, because many people, in principle, have a rather boring life, and a hike with such a traveler can sometimes greatly decorate the everyday life of local residents.
    • In some parks, museums, some cultural venues, you can climb free. Through fences and barriers, turnstiles, etc. I climbed like this in China, where all the sights are paid and expensive, and also visited some museums in Oslo. A little arrogance and skill - and you will have an exciting leisure time. If the guards notice, then the maximum they will do is politely escort you out. No problem!

I can’t name specific amounts for one or another of your trips, and no one can, because everything is individual. There is a universal rule: you spend as much on a trip as you used to spend in everyday life. This rule applies specifically to travelers, i.e. those who, one might say, live by it. An ordinary citizen travels, as a rule, 1-2 times a year, during his vacation, and he spends much more money there than a traveler. This is because an ordinary person goes on vacation to have a rest, and therefore he spends his honestly earned money on this vacation, buys this or that - to which he has a full moral right. Such a trip is called "tourism", and a trip in our format is called "journey", or "free travel".

In order to significantly save your money, I recommend writing down all your expenses on a piece of paper, keeping a spending diary. Every day, write down every expense, the amount of money spent, and then calculate the losses. This method will allow you to catch the need for certain of your expenses, needs, will allow you to think about them, and, if possible, reduce them to a minimum. Then you will be surprised how many expenses you can refuse!

This is the difference between a traveler and a normal person: a traveler always travels, because even when he does not travel, he still travels. Why is that? Because he lives in the same format and at any other time, in addition to trips and trips. He was accustomed to living like this, accustomed to saving and leading a semi-ascetic kind of life. A normal person travels only during holidays, and the rest of the time he is engaged in other activities. Therefore, this article, in principle, is completely irrelevant for an ordinary citizen and will be useful only for those who wish to try this lifestyle, try to travel without money or with minimal financial costs. Who has a lot of free time, which he is ready and willing to devote to the journey and everything connected with it.

Where to get money for travel?

So, we have already found out with you that in order to travel, it is not necessary to have a lot of candy wrappers, and sometimes you can travel without money at all, this happens often: at one point or another of the trip, your expenses can be reduced to zero. If you earn money before the trip, then there are a huge number of ways and types of various hired jobs - listing everything is inexpedient and pointless. Get a job, earn money - go to travel. That's all science.

    It's a success, baby!

Another way is needed, for example, when you decide to extend your stay on a trip, and the money you previously earned has already come to an end. You need to look for earnings right on the trip, where you are, or go somewhere where you can do it (make money). Let's try to consider in more detail the options for where to get money for travel:

    • Seasonal earnings on various plantations in developed countries. Farmers invite everyone to harvest. Native citizens tend to demand higher wages, so they are less desirable to farmers. So they will be happy with various kinds of migrants, albeit without a work permit. So, most likely, if you contact such a farmer during the harvest, then, due to the lack of labor, he will willingly give you a job. Wages on such plantations in developed countries can be around $60-150 per day. Earned money - went to travel.
    • Unskilled labor in developed countries (popular: USA, Europe, Korea, China). For example, various cleaning, washing dishes, room service in hotels, etc. Knowing the language can give you much more choice among the job offers. However, it is more efficient to look for such work (illegal) through the Russian-speaking community. Looking for a job yourself, trying to bypass one, another employer, is much less effective than asking to find a job through Russian-speaking emigrants. Most likely they will ask for some percentage for help, but in any case, you will win.
    • Help local people, in anything. Those. What they do in their business is what you do. To do this, you need to get to know them and ask for a job, if they agree to your conditions, they can take it. After all, perhaps in some kind of production or extraction of something with the help of you, they can earn more, therefore, it will be beneficial for many to accept you. It is not worth counting on a high fee, sometimes, maybe, in general, you will manage only food. It's hard, but real.
    • Playing musical instruments in large cities, in squares, passages, etc. China and Hong Kong are especially popular. Some people who are good at painting portraits earn money by painting. Relevant for those who are already immersed in art.
    • work as a guide in popular tourist spots. You can get a job both in a Russian-speaking office and in an English-speaking one, if you speak English. Special skills are not required. Sociability, sociability, responsibility.
    • Teach English in small rural schools or non-rural and even large ones - how do you get on! Perhaps not only English, but also Russian, and perhaps not a language, but something else, if you know the subject accordingly. This is already skilled work, you can even get a work visa.
    • Telework through the Internet. Many people practice this type of activity. Nowadays, a large number of specialists can work remotely, which they use - and travel!
    • Wedding work photographer in various resort towns where newlyweds like to come on their honeymoon. It is important to have good equipment, be able to take high-quality pictures, and have some advertising on the Internet, or right there on the spot. Those. also skilled labor.
    • News your blog, vlog, website or anything else on the internet that can be monetized through ads. I also have this type of income.
    • Sell your photos, videos materials on special services. Photos can be sold through photobanks, and the captured video from the trip can be offered to TV channels, more often they are interested in your source files, and not in the finished (edited) video. The better the quality of your photo / video materials, the higher the chances of getting money for them.
    • Fundraising (donations) via the Internet on special services, or simply by entering your details on your website/account. I have successfully practiced such a collection.
    • royalty free financial help from local residents. Sometimes it happens that, having learned about your travel plans, bold routes and adventurism, people themselves (without your request and hints) take the initiative and help you financially. This has happened to me many times.
    • Selling your books. Write books about your travels, various guides, tips. At first (while you are an unknown author) you will have to print and sell yourself, sometimes working even at a loss, but with the growth of your popularity, income may increase. Over time, the sale of books loses its relevance and effectiveness, a lot of guidebooks and various travel books have already appeared, but nevertheless, the option is available to everyone.
    • Selling some things. It can be your printed photos from beautiful places. For example, in Southeast Asia, in crowded places in large cities, you can sell photographs taken in Russia, somewhere in Kamchatka or in a taiga winter forest - such photographs are interesting for residents of tropical countries, for them it is exotic. Traveling around countries, you can collect local banknotes and coins, and then in other countries (such as China, Korea, Japan, etc.) sell them as souvenirs.

As you can see from what has been read above, traveling without money is quite possible and realistic, but it is even more realistic to travel with money, but not much. Those. the point is that no matter what amount of money you have at a given time, you can travel with it. One way or another, at the very least, in cramped quarters, but not offended, but you can ride, so use it, and let this article be useful to you!
